COVID-19 Pandemic & Online Lessons
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, lessons during the 2021-2022 studio year will be taught in-person with precautions, or online via Zoom if/when necessary. All precautions may be subject to change.
Precautions for in-person lessons will include: Self-screening for symptoms of illness prior to lesson attendance, hand washing or sanitizing, physical distancing between teacher and student/family members including the use of two pianos, wearing of face masks, open windows whenever weather allows, and adherence to updated CDC guidance on quarantine and isolation in cases of COVID-19 positive test or exposure.
To protect the health of everyone in the studio, any student who comes to an in-person lesson displaying symptoms of illness will be asked to return home, and will need to forego that lesson. If a student shows minor signs of illness that will not interfere with their ability to focus, please request an online lesson, giving as much advance notice as possible.
"Normal" in-person lessons without precautions are available to fully vaccinated students IF community transmission in Elkhart County is moderate or low, provided all persons in the room for the duration of the lesson are fully vaccinated, and each one shows proof of vaccination. I am also happy to show proof of vaccination upon request. If community transmission is substantial or high, masks will be required for all students, regardless of vaccination status.
Online lessons via Zoom will be scheduled for each student at least once per year, to ensure that the necessary technology is in place, should online lessons be needed for any reason. Online lessons may continue on a regular basis for any students who prefer that option.
“I have two children who have taken lessons for the past two years with Ana. They are different ages and ability levels, and Ana easily adapts to their strengths and abilities. She really cares about teaching children to read music and play to the best of their ability. She takes the time to get to know the child and their interest in music and tries to select pieces for them to learn that are interesting to them. I highly recommend Ana to anyone considering piano lessons for their children.” – Swapna, parent
“As an older adult, I was rather apprehensive in starting music lessons again, especially since I hadn’t touched the piano keys for over 15 years. Ana’s encouraging instruction eased my anxiety and I found my self-confidence returning. Once I started practicing again, I soon saw the benefits of continuing with lessons (especially moving into my senior years of life) – self-discipline, focus, challenging my brain, developing flexibility in my fingers, as well as a renewed desire to play music. I am grateful that Ana is so encouraging, patient, and uplifting in her teaching. Her expertise and love for music is very evident.” –Nancy, adult student
“We loved being a part of Ana Yoder Coulter's Piano Studio! Our son began taking lessons for the first time with Ana at a young age and he has really excelled and enjoyed it. She recognized the ways in which he learns best and made it fun and exciting for him to practice. Ana was professional, respectful, and kind - always keeping the best interests of her students and their families in mind. We only stopped our son's lessons with her due to a move, but would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a piano instructor!” – The Hirsh family
“Piano lessons with Ana have dramatically improved my ability to play the piano with confidence. Specifically, during my time taking lessons with Ana, I was able to develop a more proper technique, reduce unnecessary tension, and gain deeper confidence during performances. The piano lesson experience was also clearly personalized to enhance my strengths and target my weaknesses as areas to pursue further growth. As I continue to accompany singers and play the piano for church, I will be forever grateful for the techniques that Ana taught me.” –Sam, college student
“Our daughter had the joy of being Ana Yoder Coulter's piano student for six years. During that time her growth as a musician was tremendous. Ana has a warm but earnest approach which nurtures, encourages and guides a student towards mastery. Next month our daughter will be auditioning for college music scholarships and we know the judges will be impressed by her playing. Thank you so much, Ana Yoder Coulter!” – Paul, parent
